Employee Spotlight: Chris Nerny

This quarter we are featuring Chris Nerny, our lead gate automation technician in Central Ohio.

Chris was picked as an employee spotlight due to him being one of our top "team" players. He is willing to go above and beyond to get things done and make sure the job is done right. He has played a huge role in the success of our gate division in Columbus and is one of the main reasons we are where we are today from his hard work and sacrifice. He is always willing to step up and help when needed.

Where are you from? 

Born and raised in Gahanna, Ohio.

Education/Work History

Went to school at Gahanna Lincoln as well as Eastland Career Center for AG diesel Mechanics (learned small engine repair to big train engines, as well as hydraulic, welding and wiring. Went to college for fire science. Certified for firefighting and paramedics. Graduated from the Ohio fire academy in 2004-2005.

Family? 

Single father of 2 awesome kids.

What is your favorite hobby?

Riding dirt bikes and quads with my son and coaching and playing soccer with my daughter.

What is one item you cannot live without?

My kids. They are my world; they are my drive to work as hard as I do. And maybe my kickstart drinks.

How did you get into the industry?

Well 8 to 9 years ago I decided to stop working as a mechanic on vehicles for a full time job and a temp agency responded to my resume for the security gate industry. I started with another gate company and put a few years in, then followed a friend that I grew up with over to Citywide. Working with Citywide has been a great change in this industry.

What do you like about the industry?

The start to finish of a project as well as to see the different jobs and equipment being used in day-to-day operation. Whenever my kids and I drive by a security gate they ask “Dad did you install that?”

How long have you been with Citywide?

I have worked for Citywide for going on 5 years now. Seeing the different in the company from when I started and now is a big change of growth.

What does your job entail?

I am the lead tech on the gate division, fabricator/ welder, project manager, anything and everything that has to do with the gate division. 

What is your favorite thing about Citywide?

The company is like a family.
